In Emmett Stark, we have a WWW villian that could be more dangerous and ruthless than Dr. Loveless and Emma Valentine combined. I wonder why they did not name the town Starkland instead of Paradox.
Paradox, though, is the eptiome of a ghost town, with no one worth trusting at all, from the beautiful PYTS to the so-called good doctor treating James.
We do have some great scenes with James trying to figure out what happened to him.
Did you also noticed that Stark's crew also managed to change James and Artie's clothes in the midst of their journey to Paradox?
I really enjoy Artie's concern for his partner and friend in this particular episode. Look at the facial language when he thinks he killed his friend. Passionate and perfect, wonderful drama.
Quite something when James got ahold of Artie's monogrammed weapon!!
Of the primary villans, I like Betsy Stark, Emmett's daughter. Has it ever occured to you that Joe Stark from TNOT Iron Fist could be Emmett's son, cousin, or nephew? .
The only minuses I would give to this episode is to Artie's date, who is so far beneath the quality of women that a classy guy like Artie should be dating, but it did make for some great scenes like when he told her that his job involved porcelin door-handles, and a great end-tag with the rotten escargot.
The other minus is for the music, mainly reused from Walter Scharf's score for TNOT Assasins, with one scene though having faster trumpet blasts. The only "New" music in the whole episode is the psychadelic guitar at the end of act III when James is drugged by the "Good" Doctor. The new music actually was a preview for the score for the following weeks episode, TNOT Amnesiac, composed by guitarist Mundell Lowe.
With Artie in Virginia City, do you know he was just a few inches away from encountering a Cartwright up there? . Also great scenes in the Wanderer with Artie and Colonel Richmond.
Great ep, but TNOT Bubbling Death is still my favorite Season 3 episode.
9 out of 10 from me for this WWW classic. .
And yes, I do agree that they should have brought Emmett Stark back for another episode of the series. .
