I think i always had sort of an idea, but after reading the title of this episode and watching it, I actually looked actuary up!
This is one of the better season 4 eps for me. Lots of good stuff, like the teaser (No, sir! Secret Service!) with the house falling apart around them, and Jim being attacked by the giant magnet. Love the opening after the credits. Can't blame Jim for wanting to see the lovely lady. Did you know Arden Masterson (Emily Banks) was supposed to appear in Miguelito's Revenge, but was apparently written out after Ross's heart attack and Charles' intervention as Jeremy? I liked the way Artie worked with her--but then she disappeared! I rather thought she might show up as Artie's date in the tag, but it was two other lovelies. Rather more intelligent lovelies than usual, too.
Artie's turn as the Italian waiter was fine, as was the horror of all when the clod came to join them for their über gourmet meal. At least the toothpick was not anachronistic.
Artie also kind of put all those millionaires in their place by reciting the limerick of the Lady from Niger and the Tiger (which may or may not have been written at the the time the show takes place).
All that food on the table in the Wanderer!! Where in the world did it come from? The local deli?
The scene with Jim in the arcade was fun. Don't blame the cashier for being puzzled. (The whole scene reminded me of the Arcade at our local seaside Boardwalk--at least as it was 20-30 years ago. Same kinds of games. I think they still have the old games in a special section.) Love the look Jim gives her just as he is departing. Phew!
Then we have the scene in the "workshop" of Taney (perfectly played by Harold Gould). Jim is obviously in great peril of being used for target practice by Taney's thugs. And then we have this strange old coot entering and apparently inadvertently helping Jim, then magically changing into Artie!
The tag is kind of fun. As mentioned above, the ladies du jour seem to be a bit more intelligent than some we saw in earlier seasons, older and maybe not southern. They did get the tuning fork to work and all the glassware to break. But why did Artie walk away with all those chemicals spilling and mixing? The car could burn down!
So I'll give Actuary 8.5 of 10
