There are so many great things to enjoy about this particular episode.
For starters, Sorrell Booke well played Heisel. the caretaker with a yen for greed. He tends to get slightly uptight and truly gets his just commupence in the end when the treasure dumps on him after the ruby activates it. Watching this, it is hard to believe that this is the same actor who later played "Boss Hogg" on The Dukes of Hazzard because the characters are so different from each other.
One thing I do not understand is the masked people who come in and smoke out the museum to get the ruby in the teaser. The costumes look more like 1960's than 1870's. If this was a subtle way to get the WILD back into The Wild Wild West, that is perfectly fine with me. .
Rosie is quite an interesting character, at times bordering on symphatic, that helps to make her one of my favorite females in the entire series, for sure in the top 20. I really enjoy how she helps James escape from the ice warehouse and her concern as to how she and James will escape from there without getting frozen to death!! .
Artie is great as the salty Austrailan sailor who deals with the black guy for the majority of the middle part of the episode. He certainly adds a lot of dramatic dimension and depth to the character.
I really enjoy Tom Troupe as Jason, the original mastermind behind the stealing of the ruby. He played the bad guy really well, especially in the interrogation scene between him and Rosie when he threatens to unleash his poisionous spider on Rosie!!
It also is very interesting that he is very well-dressed, yet he has quite a motley crew of cowboys for henchmen.
Of course, my favorite part of this episode is the barroom brawl that ensues after Ferrett is killed. James was great in that scene, which I watch a lot.
This is one of the few season 4 episodes that gets a....
