The Night of the Fugutives is a season 3 episode that had to wait until Season 4 for airing. The primary reason is that Robert Conrad had a nasty fall in trying to do a very challenging stunt involving swinging from a chandelier. That ceased production of the episode for a very long season of time--at least 6 to 8 weeks if I remember correctly--which not only abruptly ended the production of the episode, but also the Third Season as well.
Picking up where he left off from his very nasty fall, the chandelier scene turned out to be a very exciting moment in the entire episode.
I enjoy the kitty in this episode as well. The feline also got a chance to say some lines in this episode as well.
For me, the main reason for watching this episode is Artie's wonderful disguse as the sneaky preacher Hallelujiah Harry "Hallelujiah Harry is my name--Saving souls is my game." A great funny scene in the entire episode is when Artie lets down the tambourine for a financial contribution and winds up getting some cigar ashes from Diamond Dave.
Simon Oakland, another one of Ladybug's favorite actors, plays the Diamond Dave gangster role to a "T" and is very entertaining to watch. On the other hand, Mickey Hargetay, best known as the ex-husband of Jayne Mansfield and the father of "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" actress Mariska Hargitay, is underused in his portrayal as Diamond Dave's assistant. He only has a few lines throughout the episode, plus he appears in the middle of the plot. It is very clear that Diamond Dave was running the operation as you watch this episode.
Norbert Plank is a very interesting nerdy bookwormish-character to be involved in such a big time operation, but he did turn out to be very clever, leaving a decoy empty book while keeping all of the figues of the organzation in his head!! . Great scene with Artie as he searches for the missing financial records.
The "Church-steeple" scenes are really cute, and Epitath is quite the ghost town.
The scene where the "real" Hallelujiah Harry appears and uncovers Artie is a little disturbing. It is one of the elements that causes me to not watch this episode as much as some of the other great WWW episodes.
However, I do enjoy the penultimate scene when James comes flying out of the Church of Epitath with the red-pinkish smoke coming out of Hallelujiah Harry's wagon! Hopefully James and Artie compensated him very generously for the use of their wagon that Artie apparently stole.
I also really enjoy the scene with Artie and Colonel Richmond on the Wanderer, and I will need to rewatch the tag again to see if it is one of my favorites or not. It did not make a huge impression on me when I watched it again a couple of months ago.
This is kind of a middle-of-the-road episode for me.
Upon watching it again a few months ago, it is still not one of my favorite episodes, but it is one I do like to watch from time to time.
For now, TNOT Fugitives receives a very generous score of......
8 out of 10 from me. .
